Announcing Eleanor Williams – Recipient of the Biocuration Society Career Award

The International Society for Biocuration is pleased to announce Eleanor Williams, from the University of Dundee as the recipient for the Biocuration Career Award in 2018.

Fluorescence microscopy of HeLa cells
Fluorescence microscopy of HeLa cells as curated in the Image Data Resource

Dr. Williams worked as a Data Curator on the Expression Atlas and ArrayExpress projects from 2006 to 2015, and was part of the team that developed the submission pipeline and metadata standards for these projects. She also played a critical role in the development of the Cellular Microscope Phenotype Ontology (CMPO).

In 2015, she joined Open Microscopy Environment’s Image Data Resource (IDR) and was a key player in developing the metadata curation and handling pipelines used for handling many 100s of Mbytes of submitted metadata. The result of her and the IDR team’s work was published in Nature Methods in 2017 and is the foundation for several new projects using IDR for cloud computing and the further development of scientific image databases.

Please join us in congratulating her on her accomplishments and in receipt of this award.
