Effective 22nd May 2018
The mission of the International Society for Biocuration (ISB) is to promote the field of biocuration and provide a forum for information exchange through meetings and workshops. Central to our mission is our commitment to be transparent about the data we collect about you, how it is used and with whom it is shared.
Data we collect
To become a member of the ISB, you need to provide data including your name, personal or institutional billing address (as appropriate), email address and contact number. This information is stored on an online, password protected database accessible only to the Membership Officer and nominated members of the Executive Committee and is retained for a maximum of 3 years after membership has lapsed.
Expenses repayment data
Electronic copies of invoices and claim forms received by the Society are maintained in a password-protected file share system for 10 years following the financial year in which the claim is made. These forms contain member’s either personal or institutional contact details and also banking details, which may also be either personal or institutional.
The ISB website logs the IP address of your browser to track usage statistics and to identify operational problems. This information is never used to identify individuals or organizations.
Cookies are used to provide persistence across browsing sessions. These may persist after you exit your browser, but they are never used for either identification nor tracking purposes.
Data we disseminate
All biocurators may opt into a mailing list maintained by the Society, irrespective of membership status, and are free to opt out at their own discretion.
Data we share
A subset of the membership information (name, email and membership expiration date) is shared with the journal Database (https://academic.oup.com/database), for the purposes of tracking membership, for which members will receive a discount when publishing with database. This same membership information is also shared with the organization committee of the annual Biocuration conference to ensure that members receive discounted attendance fees. The data is not otherwise shared with any other third parties.
